Presenting a pair of Victorian Rolled Rose Gold reversible 2 design book chain bracelets with original safety chains and extra links circa 1860s.
These beautifully crafted book chain bracelets from the Victorian Era measure 8"x .25" x .125" and weigh 44.3 grams. They have deeply etched patterns on both sides of the chain. One is a stylized hourglass and the other is a geometric design. Both sides have finished edges. The bracelets close securely with hidden box clasps and both have the original safety chains. 3 additional links are included.
The bracelets are in excellent antique condition without breaks, chips or repairs. There are no visible hallmarks. JSP testing solution was used to verify the precious metals which ranged from 9K to 12K Gold. These are rolled Gold pieces and will vary in metal content according to the thickness of the rolled layers.
Rolled Gold is made by applying a layer of gold alloy to a base metal. This sandwich is then drawn to the thickness needed for the piece of jewelry. The layer of gold used in rolled gold is thicker than that used in gold filled jewelry. Rolled gold was very popular in the 1880s.
