Presenting a Modernist brooch /pin by M.(Michael) Schacke of Denmark with a brilliant Cobalt blue Basse - taille enameling in a mixed metals setting with a Banjo motif circa 1987.
This gorgeous hand-made mixed metal brooch / pin features a Cobalt Blue basse-taille enameled body on Copper, Silver and Brass. The enamel is amazing, showing great translucence while the color jumps off the page. The Cobalt Blue pops on the Silver base over Copper and Brass underneath that. The Banjos neck is in Copper and shows wonderful detail in this modernist musical motif. The brooch measures 3" x 1.375" x .625" and weighs 34.5 grams and closes securely with a modified c - clasp.
This brooch is in excellent vintage with no breaks or repairs. The piece is visibly hallmarked “M.Schacke”. JSP solution was used to verify the metal content.
Basse - taille or Émail de basse-taille is done by engravers to create an intense color in a translucent enamel like the Cobalt Blue on this piece. The engravers use chisels or etching in various levels of relief (from shallow low relief to deep on a slightly thicker plate). The piece is then fired repeatedly with many layers of enamels which enable the piece to gain more depth than the traditional enamels.
