Presenting a Victorian signed Lapis Lazuli and Marcasite Brooch circa 1898.
This detailed 1.5 inch by 1 inch brooch features a central bezel set 35 mm by 15 mm marquise Lapis Lazuli cabochon in a silver gun metal scalloped frame accented with Marcasite and applied decorative silver beading. In the center of the Lapis cabochon is an applied Silver flower basket also accented with Marcasite.
This 9.5 gram brooch was produced by German artist Ernst Bek of Ernst Gideon Bek Company in Pforzheim, Germany and was sold by the Binder Bros in the United States.
This gorgeous brooch is in excellent antique condition with no damage, chips or repairs. There is a slight bend to the pin that does not effect its fastening. The brooch is visibly hallmarked with the image of a Butterfly, the hallmark for the Ernst Gideon Bek Company. There is no metal hallmark. Due to sympathies with the U.S. in the Spanish-American war in 1898 Bek Co. used high nickel gun metal as its base.
