Presenting a Blue Oyster Cameo carved in high relief in a scene from the Renaissance with a 18k frame and 14k 56 inch double link chain.
This Blue Oyster Georgian cameo features a Renaissance scene of two minstrels playing for a appreciative women. The man on the far right is playing Scottish bagpipes. The other, some type of fluted woodwind instrument. The men are featured in dress circa 1530s in over cloaks with slashed sleeves over narrow sleeved shirts and hose divided into upper hose and stockings with pouched codpieces. The women is knelling with her elbows resting on a table or bench and she is holding her chin in her cupped hands. She is wearing a long sleeved dress with apron and gabled hood with capelet draped over her shoulders. All are outside some type of structure.
The frame is 18k and decorated with swags, acanthus leaves and beading. On the back of the cameo, the frame has a welded scaffolding for extra support that appears original to the piece. There is some slight green discoloring of the frame at the welding points on the back. Most likely this is from copper in the welding material. There is no green discoloring anywhere else. The cameo with frame is 2.75 inches by 1.75 inches. Without the frame it is 1.625 inches by 1.125 inches. The cameo and frame weigh 20 grams together. Neither are hallmarked but tested and verified 18k with JSP testing solution and guaranteed to be such.
The 14k 56 inch long by .125 inch wide chain weighs 33 grams and features a double link embellished with granulation. The chain is hallmarked W.P.H. and is clearly visible. There is no metal hallmark. The spring ring clasp and attached jump ring are not original to the piece and were added at a later date. The chain was tested and verified 14k with JSP testing solution and is guaranteed to be such. The total weight of all of the pieces is 53 grams.
These pieces are in excellent antique condition with no visible dings, dents or scratching. The cameo has a very slight craze line in the upper middle right side that can be seen in the picture that is back - lit. The craze line is on the back side and It does not follow thru to the front
