Alsace region has produced a lot of glazed terra cotta mold. It was made for cooking a cake and it could be a present for marriage with some other both culinary and decorative potteries (they were exposed in the kitchen on the dresser with some other molds and plates). Other symbolic form molds exist such as fish, lily, eagle, heart, young baby...

The mold here is original because it represents a couple. It is mid to late 19th Century. It is a pretty rare form. According to the local oral tradition these molds are called "Hansel & Gretel", a reference to the Brothers Grimm fairy tale.

At the lower left corner it is obvious that there has been a sticking of a broken fragment of clay. But you have to pay attention to notice it.
