This is a very authentic piece of Alsatian culinary tradition, a medium size tureen that was made for cooking the famous "Baeckhoffe" which means "baker's oven" in Alsatian dialect.
Still today you can find a lot of modern tureens in the Soufflenheim village where mosst of the Alsatian culinary pottery was produced but the tureen I am selling is from the XIXth century. It is an orange "terre vernissée" glazed pottery and you can still use it to cook a paté or a typical Alsatian Baeckhoffe.
The general condition of the tureen is good, I noticed no crack. There are a few lacks of glaze on the lid which give this piece a charming old fashioned appearance.
