This antique certificate dates from 1891 and has been given to a girl called Emilie Riedinger, born in 1876. This is representative of a folk art tradition powerful in Alsace that consisted in painting commemoration of important events in life from birth to death. This kind of pictures used to be hanged to the walls of the house.
In the mid XIXth century this type of certificate is almost no more handpainted by local artists as it used to be before but they more likely consist of semi-industrial copies on which the priest writes the certification in a beautiful writing style typical from that era. This colored picture comes from the L.a.A.M workshop and is numbered 2357 (on the lower right corner).
The frame is the original one. It is in vintage condition. You will notice a lack of black colored plaster on the lower left corner.
