This is a very rare butter stamp from the Alsace area. On its top you find the name of its owner and the date of creation ! (Joseph Gabel - 1847).
The farmers liked to have butter molds or stamps to put their mark on their own production. Most of the stamps unfortunately disappeared because they are in fir wood and pretty fragile. But this one is in pretty good condition despite the woodworm damage and has a great quality of carving with ears patterns and a cross in the middle.
An impressive piece of folk art and old traditions.
