This is a sparkling round very fine brilliant cut crystal pitcher with a geometric design of squares with a sunburst motif on the bottom. In the circular reserve on the side there is an incised golf flag marked "19". The "nineteenth hole" meaning they are enjoying a drink after the game. Fun gift to a golfer. In excellent antique condition. It was made by the English glass house of Stevens & Williams, Stourbridge, England.
Brilliant cut glass is thick, heavy, absolutely clear and deeply cut. The crystal used in the best cut glass has an extremely high lead content. After cutting, the edges were hand-polished, using pumice or a potter's buffing wheel. The glass sparkles like diamonds and remains very clear, even a century later.
Period: Late 19th, early 20th century
Size: 5 " (12.7 cm) H, 7.5" (19 cm) lip to handle
