Very nice original oil on Masonite vintage painting by important Austrian artist Roland Strasser - (Austria Vienna, April 24,1895 – Santa Monica California July 27, 1974), signed lower left and verso.
This impressionistic painting depicting two range horses with a rancher sitting on the fence. The art work projects life energy which is so characteristic to the artist himself, who traveled the world - in his mid twenties the young Roland was already in Java, Indonesia. From 1920 to 1934 the artist traveled extensively in Mongolia, Tibet, Siam (Thailand), China, Japan, New Guinea, India, and Indonesia, settling for a decade in the latter, where he established a fine reputation. With the war raging in Southeast Asia, he moved to the United States, where he died in Santa Monica, California in 1974. This work likely dates to that thirty year period between the move to the US and his death.
The artist is best known for the works he created while in Bali, Indonesia, these works featuring local female dancers. Such works have exceeded $75,000 at auction.
