Superb vintage oil on canvas painting c.1920. Signed lower right by listed British, Scottish artist Robert Russell MacNee (1880–1952). This artist is listed in all major art references and his quite valuable paintings are sold all over the world. Some paintings have exceeded $10,000 at auction. This art work is a typical work of the Robert Russell MacNee and fine example of early 20th C European pastoral life. The subject is a subtly rendered impressionist scene of a country life, with just scant animal activity present in the form of a few cows on the heal in the middle distance, and a structures on the far. Executed in a silvery, warm palette of grays, tans and greens. The light colors used by the artist projected somewhat romanticism and serenity of the area depicted.
Art work measures 46 x 56 cm - 18" x 22" without frame; with the frame 70 x 80 cm - 27 1/2" x 31 1/2".
The painting is in very good condition, with no paint loose or other damage. There is a craquelure here and there, that are securely fixed in place.

MacNee was born in Dunbartonshire, and he studied at the Glasgow School of Art. He exhibited 115 times at the Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts, Manchester City Gallery, Walker Art Gallery (Liverpool), the Royal Hibernian Academy, Royal Scottish Academy, and the Royal Society for Painters and Watercolourists. MacNee is best known for his paintings of Scottish genre and landscapes, and especially for his barnyard poultry.
