A fine antique 18th century oil on tin painting "The Music Lesson" by T. de Hoogh after Netscher Caspar (Gaspar), 1639-1684 (Netherlands) who was a Dutch portrait and genre painter. He was a master in depicting oriental rugs, silk and brocade and introduced an international style to the Northern Netherlands.
This positively charming painting captures the scene of music lesson, a delightful painting for anyone passionate about Genre scenes, particularly scenes with a story. The focal point of this painting is a young Lady standing at the piano; the face, hands especially dress depicted though it gives impression of being three dimensional. The details are throughout simply amazing, every element captured with clarity and appropriate scale, a truly beautiful art work. The painting is signed verso; framed in an early 19th century pierced frame.
Measures 11 1/4" x 9 1/2" - 28.5 x 24 cm without frame; with the frame 15 1/2" x 14 1/2" - 39.5 x 37 cm
Condition: examination under ultraviolet light reveals in-filling to right very bottom corner; light rubbing marks from frame around perimeter; the varnish flaring opaque under ultraviolet. The painting in life slightly darker then in pictures. The frame has a few tight over-dry cracking lines; otherwise fine.
