Opaline crystal glass or cristal d'opale is a semi-translucent crystal glass. First appeared in France during the Empire period and reached its pick of popularity during the reign of Napoleon III. Lately became very collectible and popular with glass lovers which delight us with its soft delicate beauty. This lovely box in here is a beautiful example of French opaline glass; dated to mid-late 19th century, finished in white Opaline glass in a shape of an egg, set into gilded ornate bronze mounts and embellished with agate cabochons at the bottom and a moon stone on the lid.
This egg box stands 7 1/2" high; 3" in diameter at the opening. The agate cabochons are 1 1/4" x 1" large.
It is an antique piece and obviously shows age related marks but has no chips, cracks or nick.
