Antique O/C painting by Austrian artist Fischhof Georg as J.Claiton
This antique oil on canvas painting by Austrian artist Fischhof Georg (1859 - 1914), depicts "Fisherboats at the Great Belt". Dated to late 19thC, signed J.Claiton - the Artist signed different series of works with different names, currently only seven of them are known. The art work measures: without frame 55 x 69 cm. It is in very good condition, consistent with age, craquelure on upper part, otherwise just fine. Measurements with the frame - 64 - 78 cm. Gold leaf, period frame is in very good condition, light wear to the gold and patina, otherwise perfect.
About Artist - An Austrian painter and graphic artist. Born in Vienna. He studied at Vienna Art School under the guidance of F. Shtarm, then - in Munich Academy of Arts. He traveled a lot to Italy and the Netherlands. He signed different series of works with different names (currently only seven of them are known), for example the most of his thematic paintings are signed with the signature "J. Wagner", seascapes Р with "J. Claiton", etc. He was engaged in wall painting, author of numerous frescoes and sketches for tapestries. He painted the famous monasterial palace in Stift Klosterneuburg, the palace of Count K. Razumovskyy and M. Wiener von Welten in Vienna. He painted portraits on the order of the royal dynasties, including the most famous ones: the portrait of Archduke Rainier von Habsburg-Lothringen, the dukes of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Princess Dora von Holstein-Gottorp. He was actively engaged in the field of book illustration. The genre and landscape compositions of the master were very popular among his contemporaries. His works are presented in the museum and private collections in Austria, Denmark, Italy, Holland and Germany.
