Superb scarce to rare Findlay Ohio, Dalzell, Gilmore & Leighton Co. sugar shaker in the Onyx pattern with the lid still with it. Produced for a year, between 1888 and 1889. Apparently, Onyx was notoriously fragile from the very beginning, thus accounting for its very short production - run of only a year or so. The breakage percentage was so high that it almost bankrupted the company, so all Findlay Onyx pieces are hard to find and especially undamaged as this one. This sugar shaker in here is in white opaque/opaline glass, with a lot of fire in it; has a raised, cased daisy decoration with silver metallic coloring. Great collectible piece and one that does not come along too often. The pattern and silver luster effect are very pleasing here. Almost 125 years old, now, and only getting older and rarer as the years pass.
Sugar shaker stands 5 1/2" (14.3 cm) high; 3 1/4" (8.5 cm) in diameter at the widest.
As mentioned it has no damage, no chips or cracks, slightly rough edge, but this considered to be nothing taking into consideration type of glass. The silver plate lid shows loss to silver reveling spots of yellow metal, probably brass. It has small and light dent, which is not noticeable at once, mentioned for accuracy, otherwise just fine.
Layaway is welcome.
