This is a beautiful painting by prominent Belgian artist Josephus Laurentius Dyckmans (9 August 1811, Lier –8 January Antwerp 1888).
'The Busy Housewife' is a typical example of Dyckmans' genre Victorian era paintings, it depicting a woman sitting in front of the house with the flower pot on window sill and a cat watching her working, thus balancing the compositional scheme of the whole picture. The oil on panel painting is signed J. Dyckmans and dated 1846 (lower left). Measures 12" x 14.5" (30.5 x 37 cm) without frame. With the frame 17.25" x 19.5" (43.8 x 49 cm). It is in very good condition, it shows age appropriate wear but has no damage. Frame is in good condition as well with no damage. Please see pictures for details, they are part of my description.
