Original oil on canvas painting by prolific Hungarian/American artist Pal Fried or as artist often signed his works Fried Pal - the name first in the European manner. He is repeatedly listed in auction catalogs and reference books and wrongly under the letter "P". His works are included in the Fine Art Books. The "Ballerina" measures 24" x 30" without frame and with the wood/gesso gilded frame - 33" x 38". Art work is in vintage good condition.
About Artist -
Pal Fried - 1893 Budapest - 1976 New York.
He studied at the Hungarian Academy under the instruction of Hugo Pohl and in Paris under Claude Monet and Lucien Simone. He was also heavily influenced by the French impressionist school of Renoir and Degas. He excelled in portraits of high society Parisian women, ballerinas, nudes, Oriental and western scenes, seascapes, primary working with oil and pastels, experimenting with light and movement in his work. In 1947 he moved to United States where he taught in New York at the Academy of Art. Later in 1950s and 1960s worked in Hollywood, painting portraits of high-prolific celebrities including the Gabor sisters and Marilynn Monroe. Pal Fried was a highly prolific artist and his career spanned more than five decades.
