Fabulous old French opaline glass casket. The color of the glass interesting, it appears to be white, or smokey white, but in some light there is a very subtle, I would say neutral pink cast. Dated to mid-late 19th century. Back then these were used as sugar caskets, sugar was as precious as tea and kept under lock and key. Now a days these caddies are offered as jewelry or trinket caskets and in deed these are deserved to be cherished. Simple yet elegant they bring the history and a charm of the old time.
The casket stands 4 1/8" (10.8 cm) high; 5" x 3 1/4" (13 x 8.5 cm) rectangular.
Condition is good to excellent considering age. No chips or cracks, no hairlines or breaks. A little tarnish to ormolu mounts, otherwise perfect. The lock works, and original key is present.
Layaway is welcome.
