An extremely pretty vintage 1940's French,Louis Rousselet, demi-parure of cornflower blue pastes and glass pearls.
The necklace is of large prong set oval, foiled, cornflower blue paste stones in gold tone mounts. The stones are wired with cut gold tone metal spacers. A beautiful box clasp set with cornflower blue pastes, each surrounded by gold tone cut metal beads. The clasp is set on gold tone honeycomb backs. A safety chain is attached. Marked Made in France and SGDG. (the abbreviation for Breveté Sans Garantie du Gouvernement which means "Patented Without State Guarantee."). It is not a makers Mark.
The earrings of cornflower blue paste centres with a circlet of glass pearls and two graduated drops of blue pastes, glass pearls and a glass pearl drop. The earrings are wired to gold tone filigree backs with French horseshoe clips, marked made in France.
The construction features that would identify this set as by Louis Rousselet are the use of the honeycomb backs to the clasp, the filigree and horseshoe clips on the earrings and the wired glass pearls. The wiring of the collets and paste stones is typical of Rousselet construction and is seen in numerous necklaces where paste stones are used. Rousselet often did use paste stones in his pieces, and this is a particularly pretty example.
Length of necklace 15.1/4 inch. and 1/2 inch deep. Earrings 3 inch drop.
