An awesome early1920's Heart Brooch widely acknowledged as an early Chanel piece.
The large heart is surrounded by ruby tear drop rhinestones which are intersperced with small gold plated beads and tipped with collet set glass pearls.
In the center is a ruby navette, surrounded by glass pearls and clear rhinestones all set in a large black bakelite heart.
It measures 2.7/8 inch across by 3.1/8 inch from top to bottom.
In very good vintage condition with normal and expected signs of wear and patination
ruby rhinestones are all intact with no damage or cracking.
The glass pearls show minimal wear and the rhinestones, although a little grey in our pictures, are much clearer than they appear.
Such early pieces are almost impossible to find. We have had an almost identical brooch, but with ruby gripoix glass cabachons instead of the ruby rhinestones.
The early Chanel costume accessories are unique and reflect the earliest of Coco Chanel's creative imagination. A collector's dream and a must have example of the early masterpieces commissioned by Coco Chanel.
