A simple cluster ring from about 1970, with fine round diamonds surrounding a natural oval amethyst with glints of purple amid a dark bluish purple body color. The twenty diamonds weigh about 1.50 carats total, and have G-H color, VS clarity and Very Good cut. The amethyst is modified brilliant cut, and is estimated by formula to weigh 14.00 carats. Its surface is abraded but can be polished, to the expected benefit of the stone's brilliance. Or it can be enjoyed as is.
The shank and base are of 14-karat yellow gold, as tested (with faint stamp inside shank). The top, including fishtail diamond gallery and eight integrated prong holding the center stone, are platinum, again as tested. It measures about 15/16" x 13/16", and sits around 8-9 mm. high from the finger. The finger size is about 4 1/2 and can be sized larger. The total item weighs 7.8 pennyweights.
Of special beauty is the contrast of the diamonds' brilliance in the tight fishtail gallery against the amethyst's deep color, all in a low-profile setting, giving it a tailored appearance. Wear it for a regal touch to life.
