A distinctive ring in 14-karat (tested) yellow gold, probably made sometime in the 1970s. The top has a square cushion-shaped outline and measures about 1" x 1". It features an intriguing fluted rock crystal quartz with a frosted finish.

This carved stone dramatically frames the brilliance of twenty-five round diamonds weighing about 1.20 carats total. They are bead-set in separate bright-cut compartments, all within a pillow-shaped plate, and have the approximate overall quality of G-H color, SI1 clarity, and Good cut.

The ring has been made with great care. This ring is in excellent vintage condition. The rock crystal is completely intact, with no chips or scratches. There are no stamps to identify who made it, but the design and execution are thoughtful. The diamond-set plate is held in place by a vertical column of gold, which is secured to the shank by a pin soldered through it at the top. The base of the ring's top has been opened with a series of circles. The rock crystal is sandwiched between the base and the diamond-set plate without any trace of looseness. The euro-style shank has corners at the base. The finger size is about 6.

This item is not only a fascinating example of mid-Century jewelry, but it is also a delightful piece of engineering. You will feel chic wearing it.
