An understated but highly distinctive knife-edge bar pin measuring 2 1/16" long, set with nine pearls of various shapes - including round, oval, button, drop and three-quarter - measuring from 3.9 to 3.0 mm. as seen frontally. The metal is 14-karat (as stamped) yellow gold.
It is not practical to test them definitively, but because of the age of the piece (c. 1900 to 1920, based on the design of the hinge, catch and stem), it is likely that at least some of them are of natural origin, while others may be cultured replacements of older, original ones. These alternate with round faceted red rhinestones (glass) each measuring about 2.1 mm., apparently all original to the pin. Both have been tested with ultraviolet light and display the expected reactions for their type. The item weighs 2.4 pennyweights and is in good condition.
