This is a large pastel portrait of a child from a family of obvious social standing. She is wearing a pretty organdy blouse gathered at the neckline with puffy sleeves, a blue satin belt and a matching blue ribbon in her hair.
The artist has brought out her sweet expression, no doubt a reflection of her personality. He has shown her long tasseled locks of hair in a most flattering manner. In fact, you can easily discern not only her curls and waves, but the individual hairs as well.
All in all, it is a beautiful pastel portrait of a very pretty young child. She was probably sitting for some accomplishment as a piano recital or possibly a special birthday. The end result is a captivating and charming portrait.
I have framed this piece in a double gold mount, leaving the edge of the gold mounting board white so as to draw attention to the portrait. The frame was chosen because it is a replica of Edwardian frames.
As it has just been framed within the last several weeks, the frame is in superb new condition. The pastel itself is in superb condition as well, having been originally displayed under glass for about 100 years. The original frame was oak and I felt did not suit the pretty portrait. This large portrait is all ready to hang in a suitable and prominent place in your home.
It measures 24-1/2” wide by 29” high, including the frame.
