This a miniaturized version of the larger silkworks that were made by the nobility and upper-class women in Georgian times. This pretty and charming needlework is one of a pair; the other is separately listed.

In this piece the stitcher created a mixed bouquet of flowers tied with a blue bow with long and short stitches and satin stitch. The chosen colors are absolutely yummy and harmonize well with each other. There is great detail in the stitching of the roses with their red-thorned stems and red-veined leaves. The shading is excellent and allows for a fuller enjoyment of this enchanting picture.

The silk background itself is both luminous and beautiful, providing a rich vanilla ground to better show off the fragile and delicate flowers.

I have housed this exquisite embroidered piece in a 19th century maple frame, complete with silvered wood and gesso slip and its original brass eye hook from which it can be hung. Although the frame is not original to the piece and is of a later, Victorian, period, it suits the embroidery well.

The silkwork is in superb condition, considering that it dates back to the 18th century. It has no foxing, tears, holes or insect damage, which is unusual for such an early piece. The frame has acquired a rich color and soft, glowing patina. It is in excellent condition. Its glass is original to the frame, its bubbling further enhancing it antique, hand-made character.

It measures 7-5/8 inches wide by 9-1/2 inches high, including the frame.
