Charm bracelets have always been interesting because of the nature of the charms themselves. Each collector personifies her personality and interests with the type of charms they collect.
For most collectors, charms are usually mementos of the places they visited. Such charms have been sold since Victorian times and were commonly picked up at holiday destinations. Time does not seem to have dulled the interest in this pastime of discovering unique silver charms when on holiday.
This bracelet is an appealing one as it has a variety of charms that would appeal to most people because of their diversity. Its disparate charms include a knight (in shining armor), a wishing well, a luxury liner, a top hat, a wheel barrow, a life buoy, a cottage with fenced garden, a running fox, a pistol, a figure of Mercury, an enameled rooster, a pair of Scottie dogs, a gnome on a toadstool, a stork carrying a baby, and one of my favorites, a lighthouse with a faceted amethyst-colored glass dome.
All sixteen of these wonderfully cute charms are silver as it would not be worth the cost to plate them. Also, the heart locked is marked silver, which is an indication that the entire chain is silver as the padlocks usually came with silver chains that were purchased separately for the collector to affix the mementos as they were purchased. A few charms are marked silver, but most are not. They are etched in great detail. The top hat and the cottage both open. I find the universality of these charms very appealing.
This bracelet also sports a safety chain, which is a nice feature to have. The silver links of the bracelet itself are larger ovals put together by a pair of small oval links on each side that are connected to a smaller round link. This repeating pattern gives a pleasing and strong design to silver links themselves.
The weight of the bracelet is 64.5 grams. At about 7 inches around, it will fit the average wrist.
Of course, there is the wonderful silver heart padlock to keep this piece of jewelry securely on your wrist. One nice thing about having a padlock-closing is that there is a certain degree of adjustment available by closing the padlock on different links.
