Although purchased in Scotland, this lively tartan plaid throw was “Made in Italy.” It still has its original label with the name given to it by its Italian manufacturer: “Happy Holiday Red”. The size is also noted as 130 cm. x 170 cm. My tape measure shows it as 64” by 56”, including the fringe.
Instead of the usual wool, this piece was woven in polypropylene and acrylic. However, it certainly looks and feels fluffy and is very thick. In fact, until I saw the label, I thought it was a wool weave. You can see the strands of fabric woven together in this tartan design.
The throw was probably made around the 1970s, no doubt to satisfy the market for colorful tartan designs. This design takes the traditional colors and patterns, lifting it into a more contemporary look. However, the colors have mellowed somewhat, which makes them much more usable with antique woods and accessories. Modern throws are bright and brassy.
It is in very good condition for a vintage textile.
