This piece was purchased in Ireland and is unmarked. There is a fascinating history that is told about unmarked Waterford pieces. Years ago, before the introduction of sophisticated security systems in the factories, many workers decided to help themselves to the products. It was well-known that glass bowls and other pieces, prior to being engraved with the Waterford mark, were hidden in articles of clothing and taken out on busy days. It is understood that the market for unmarked Waterford pieces was quite strong.
This beautiful salad bowl is no doubt one of these. This heavy cut glass Waterford bowl has a showy pattern that not only surrounds the sides but also totally encompasses the bottom.
It is in excellent early vintage condition. It has one teeny flea bite on the rim and some expected wear on the bottom.
It measures 8-3/8 inches in diameter at the bottom and 3-5/8 inches high.
