As candles were important parts of the Victorian home, it is no wonder that special care was taken to design all kinds of candlesticks.
These late 19th century oak candlesticks were fashioned in the barley twist design, complete with removable brass inserts for the wax candles for easier cleaning. Over the last century, these candlesticks have taken on a beautiful dark color and wonderful patina. They also have their old felt bottoms so that fine polished furniture would not scuff when they were moved about.
The turned tops that hold candles have a pleasing shape that add to the overall design of the sticks. The sticks also have a wide base, making them less likely to tip.
They are in excellent condition, having been very well cared for over the last 140 or so years.
Their height of 13 inches make them taller than most of this type. They measure 5-1/2 inches in diameter at the base.
