The blue enamel front of this beautiful medium sized pale rose gold filled antique locket, from the late 1800s or early 20th century, bears the entwined & decorated letters A, E & I, representing the Victorian sentiment - 'Amity Eternity & Infinity'. The letters are dotted with split seed pearls. AEI jewellery was often a gift between friends, family members as well as romantic couples. The rear of the locket is intricately hand engraved with a geometric foliate style design. Internally it is in very good order, and appears well cared for and probably unused - with one raised section - probably for hair or a pressed flower or photo - has its original glass cover and slip frame.
Marks: The locket/charm is not marked. My jeweller confirms it is very pale Rose Gold Filled. Dimensions: The locket/charm is approx. ~1 3/4 inch (4.5cm) long, including the bail & large original jump ring. The locket is 1 inch (2.5cm) wide. Total weight is 12.1 grams. Condition: The condition is exceptionally good, especially given its age. There are no dents or holes to the front or back. There are tiny light scratches overall, but they are really only age patina. There is no enamel missing. All original seed pearls are present with no damage. Internally, it is also in very good order - with one slip cover and original glass cover present. The hinge is in good order - the locket closes very well, clicks shut, and stays shut.
Overall, an extremely attractive sentimental medium sized antique locket in exceptionally good condition. Very hard to find!
