Vintage French Continental Solid Silver Scarab Large Charm with Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics
This is a large Scarab shaped charm that I acquired in France, and removed from an old bracelet, originating from circa 1920s to 1930s. It is unmarked but has been confirmed as Continental Silver (800-900). It is solid, not hollow. The rear is decorated with hieroglyphic outlines.
Joanne Schwartz's fabulous reference book on charms - Charms and Charm Bracelets - The Complete Guide - devotes pages 62-63 to "The Egyptian Revival", and describes the re-kindled interest in ancient Egyptian themes for jewellery and charms, after the opening of King Tutankhamun's tomb in the 1920s.
Condition: This is a larger than usual and well made solid silver charm (not hollow) and is in excellent condition, with just some patina - which could be cleaned off, if desired. Marks: Unmarked, but has been tested as 800-900 silver, usual for vintage Continental silver. Dimensions - Just under 1 inch (2.5 cm) long (including bail & jump ring) by just under 1/2 inch wide (1.2 cm). Total Weight is a hefty 3.9 grams. A lovely old larger than usual Ancient Egyptian theme vintage charm for the Collector!
Australian Tracked Shipping is $5. Overseas (to listed countries) tracked shipping is $20 - this is the cheapest tracked postage available from Australia - I do not make any profit from postage.
