Over the years I've collected a wide variety of watch fobs and worn them with lovely old gold watch chains converted to a long chain necklace with decorative fobs as pendants. When I was young, we all participated in music competitions and Eisteddfods (Welsh word for Music Festivals), and so I have also collected music themed medal/fobs. This fob is small enough to be a delicate pendant, or a charm. Harder to find in yellow gold, rather than rose gold.

This is a lovely example, in beautifully crafted yellow gold. It resides neatly in its original box, which has gold lettering on the outside 'M.A.M', for Metropolitan Academy of Music. The inside cover of the box indicates the medals were from Vaughtons Ltd, Goldsmiths & Silversmiths, of Birmingham (UK).

The medal has attractive scrolls around the embossed edge inscription for 'Metropolitan Academy of Music'. This surrounds a shield shape that has been engraved for the 1935 winner for 'Pianoforte - Doris M. Jessett'. Due to the gold being quite thick, this inscription could be polished off, if desired.

Marks: The rear of the medal is plain with a full set of English 9 Carat Gold Hallmarks, for Birmingham and the year 1935, and a Maker's Mark of V&S.

Dimensions: The medal/fob/charm has a total hanging length of just under 1.75 inches (4.3cm) including the bail and jump ring, and a diameter of just over 1 inch (2.5cm). It weighs a nice solid 5.5 grams, for a medal on the smaller side.

Condition: The yellow gold fob is in excellent condition. I don't think it has been out of its box very often! It doesn't even have any scratches. The yellow gold has lovely aged patina - I haven't cleaned it. It appears more 'yellow' under the photography lights than it does in natural light. It has a nice solid feel.

Overall, a very fine example of a Music Prize medal/fob/pendant/charm, and lovely to have the matching fitted original case.
