This is a Stunning Flow or Flowing Blue Demitasse Cup and Saucer with Gold Trim. It is unmarked, it is most unusual. The cup is very thin white on the top half with an embossed design. the lower half is flo blue. the cup is trimmed in gold with a gold handle. There are for indentations on the bottom of the cup giving it the appearance of being a raised or a footed cup. The saucer is is a most unique shape. It curves delicately with many soft edges. It is embossed white with a flo blu inner edge and smooth white center. Each piece is trimmed in gold. The gold is worn in several places especially around the rims of each piece and in the floral design. The bottom of the cup has a small rough spot. There are no chips cracks or crazing. It is a Wonderful Set and would be a Great Addition for Your Collection!!
The saucer measures 4" at the widest part . The Cup Measures 2" across and if measured with the handle it measures 3" across the top and the bottom measures 1 1/4" and it stands2" tall.
Flowing Blue was first made in Staffordshire England about 1825. While cobalt blue underglaze could withstand the heat of the kilns, many glazes containing lead oxide provided characteristic flow blue wares its characteristic depth of color and brilliance.
