This is an outstanding Victorian Onyx and Pearl necklace with a memory locket. The main pendant (locket) is huge measuring over 2 inches long (not counting bale) and 1.5 inches wide. The front of the pendant is fluted which is very unusual in Victorian onyx necklaces. In the center of the locket is a flower like design with a central pearl surrounded by 10 pearls. On the back is the locket where you could place a photo of a loved one or a lock of hair. The bale is enameled and contained a pearl in the center.
The necklace, which is marked 585 (international 14k gold), contains 10 fluted onyx beads measuring about ¾ inches long each. The beads are connected to pearls which are not completely round and measure about 5.5 to 6 mm.
The necklace measures 17 inches down to the bale and with the locket almost 22 inches. It is in wonderful condition and certainly would make a wonderful edition to anyone's antique or mourning jewelry collection.
