This beautiful, sophisticated and seductively moody still life oil painting of a fish, bottle of wine and a pressed-back chair is a strong statement of Ash-Can School aesthetics. The Ash-Can artists were popular around 1950, when this painting was made. The painting is done on artist's canvas-board, and is signed Sweeney, I have not found which artist by that name created it.
The coloration of the painting is super-subtle. The fish is pearlescent. The bottle reveals a green hue and the grey tones throught are rich and varied, undulating from warm to cool tones.
The painting is 20"x24"/The new gold-metal leafed wooden frame is 23.5"x27.5"
