Shakespeare's portrait is precisely carved in cavo-rilievo technique, with his name engraved in reverse beneath it on this thick piece of copper. Once used as a mould (we don't know what the resulting product was) this excellent bit of 19th/early 20th century commercial sculpture now bears an impressive and beautiful green patina over the brown oxidized metal. The portrait is housed in an attractive gold-metal leafed custom frame for easy display on a wall.
The copper measures 6" x 4" x .5" deep; Overall frame size is 8.75" x 7".
