This strong male portrait is fine example of contemporary painting influenced by popular illustration and graffiti styles. The artist, D.A. Brand, painted it in 2011, and used acrylic paint and markers on what appears to be a piece of found masonite. The board has holes drilled in it, perhaps from its prior use. The painting is signed twice on the back. One signature is in a graffiti script, and the other more traditionally rendered, with the date 2011.
The artist is most likely from Boston or Providence, based on the collection of work in which this painting was found.
The painting is approximately 13"x9", and the frame is 14 1/4" x 10 1/2"
The frame is black-painted wood, and newer than the painting, but shows some minor surface scratches.
