The Barbizon painters in France and their Tonalist followers in the US loved to depict the simplicity of nature during transitional moments like dawn, sunset, and approaching/departing storms. This circa 1900 American oil painting on canvas depicts a gently flowing stream with waterfall, a few delicately painted trees and a wide field leading to a cottage or farm house.
The painting size is 11"x14" and the new gold metal-leafed frame measures 14.5" x17.5" The painting is unsigned.
The canvas has been lined, cleaned, retouched, and mounted back onto its original wooden stretchers. A final coating of non-yellowing varnish with UV light stabilizers brought out all the details and subtle colors.
