This super rare 1882 Rookwood vase was decorated by a student artist - E Blaine and was never intended for resale. It is decorated in French Barbotine style, with large blue morning glory blossoms, and copious amounts of leaves in full relief, a fabulous floral presentation! The color palette is gorgeous! This vase, which is glazed in a light gray, spilling into black at the bottom of the vase, a nice glaze effect, and simply stunning in its presentation! As a decorator piece, this vase makes its own statement, very beautiful!

This Barbotine style was introduced by the French at the Centennial Exhibition, in Philadelphia, in 1876. It undoubtedly inspired many American companies to produce their version of Barbotine ware. Rookwood examples of Barbotine ware are very limited in our experience, so this is a nice early Rookwood find.

Exceptional vase with fine overall crazing which may appear more pronounced due to the macro lens used for the photography. There is no damage, chips, or cracks. There are a couple of professional repairs to the flowers but cannot be detected even upon high magnification. Any non-perfections are from the firing/manufacturing process. Glaze miss to foot rim. The white spots are studio light reflections. Dimensions are below.

All pictures are original and un-edited.

Authentic and appropriately signed on the bottom with date, Rookwood and artist name.
