Thought the magnolia is the most ancient of flowering plants, Roseville pottery did not introduce this line until very late in their existence in 1943. It is not clear which species of magnolia this is since there are approximately 75 to choose from. The flower design on the pottery has several receptacles instead of the typical one found on most magnolia flowers. The large blooms on gnarled black branches can be found on backgrounds of blue, brown and green. Pieces feature raised marks.

This vase was purchased from the estate of Randy Monsen who not only collected Roseville pottery but also wrote a couple of books that are very well known. Included in this auction were many rare experimental and trial glaze pieces. This Magnolia vase was just one of many trial glaze pieces that were available that day. All trail glaze pieces are hand marked on the bottom in crayon, pen or black slip. This vase is numeral hand marked 719, 61-968. The pencil inventory annotation on the bottom is from Mr. Monsen. I did not remove these to preserve the provenance and pottery history. This can be removed by the next owner if you so chose.

Exceptionally detailed mold with excellent color. The glaze on this is an interesting combination of green and yellow - nice arts and crafts color. You will not find another as Roseville trial glaze pieces are exceptionally rare and difficult to find. Displays well from all angles. This is your chance to own a piece of Roseville pottery history.

This item was inspected with a Mil-spec UVA (365NM) and UVC (254NM) high intensity ultra-violet light and no evidence of repair or modification was detected. Exceptional vase in that has no chips, no cracks, no scratches to glaze. Flat pull chip below foot ring, otherwise excellent condition. Any non-perfections are from the firing/manufacturing process including glaze misses and glaze pops. Dimensions are below.

Please review the high resolution pictures because they are part of the description. The pictures are taken with a macro lens which show exceptional detail. Please review each picture carefully and contact with any questions.
