The Roseville Pottery Company introduced the Apple Blossom line in 1948. This line features irregular leafy apple branches some of which form handles with clusters of white blossoms. The background colors are blue, green and pink. All pieces have raised marks.
This vase was purchased from the estate of Randy Monsen who not only collected Roseville pottery but also wrote a couple of books that are very well known. Included in this auction were many rare experimental and trial glaze pieces. This Apple Blossom vase was just one of many trial glaze pieces that were available that day. All trail glaze pieces are hand marked on the bottom in crayon, pen or black slip. This vase is numeral hand marked 407, T9038, 8-34-108. The inventory sticker on the bottom is from Mr. Monsen as well as the pencil inventory annotation. I did not remove these to preserve the provenance and pottery history. This can be removed by the next owner if you so chose.
This particular Apple Blossom vase is actually a trial glaze and possibly an experimental piece as well. As you can see by the side by side picture which compares this vase to the production version, the design on the trail glaze piece is quite different. The flowers are a different shape and color. I find the trial glaze vase design much more pleasing and attractive than what was put into production. People commonly refer to this color as pink but according to the original advertisement for the Apple Blossom line, this color is actually known as coral.
Exceptional mold with excellent color. The glaze on this one is unusual and unique. You will not find another as Roseville trial glaze pieces are exceptionally rare and difficult to find. Displays well from all angles. This is your chance to own a piece of Roseville pottery history.
This item was inspected with a Mil-spec UVA (365NM) and UVC (254NM) high intensity ultra-violet light and no evidence of repair or modification was detected. Exceptional vase in that it is undamaged, no chips, no cracks, no scratches to glaze. Any non-perfections are from the firing/manufacturing process including glaze misses and glaze pops.
