This is a lovely pair of Foo Dogs carved from Chinese Jadeite from the gem quality crystal also called Bouenite Jade. You may recognize the name as it was a highly prized part of pieces made by Russian jeweler to the Czars, Carl Faberge. This beautiful pair of Foo Dogs come from an estate of an international designer. She acquired them from her own globe trotting Auntie Mame upon her death. They have been on her mantle since the 1950's when she move west from New York.
The dogs are deeply carved and highly polished semi precious jade as if they were jewelry. Each dog measures 7 1/2" high by 4" wide and 3" deep. Each wood stand is 1 3/8" high. The darker portions of the dogs is the crystal itself. Each piece is in excellent condition.
Foo Dogs were often found at the doorway to temples as the guardian against evil energy. The have mythological
healing powers and are cold to the touch.
My best guess is that they are from the later part Qing Dynasty which was from 1644-1911.
