I'm Crashing and I Can't Talk Now...

Next to hurricanes, flood, fire, disease and death, the worst thing that can happen to a Ruby Lane shop owner is a computer crash.

All I could do was stare at my screen as it succumbed to an alien takeover of some dreaded virus. Threatening warnings flashed in red while pop-ups promised to ‘FIX IT’ if only I filled in my private account numbers and paid them.


Shipping International Mail

As we move quickly into the holiday season shop owners should be sure to
check all restrictions on international mail. Many people are not aware that it is illegal to send jewelry to many countries through First Class mail. Your packages can be confiscated and online insurance will not cover the loss. If you do not send your shipments through a track able choice you will have no way to prove if the item was received. The customer will automatically receive a refund and you will have no way to prove if it really was received.

As Christmas draws near I hear more and more people in my every day life making comments about, "getting ready for the Holidays". Change is not a four letter word

Yet I tend to react to hearing the word “change” as if I’m hearing a four-letter word. I cover my ears. I stop listening. My knee-jerk reaction is to respond with a vehement howling “Noooooooooooooo.” Then I may run wildly around the room waving my hands and screaming like a banshee: “The sky is falling, the sky is falling” in my best Chicken Little imitation. Mass hysteria! Panic! Doom! Mayhem! Or, in the words of comedian Jeff Foxworthy, PANDELERIUM !!!

Phew. Ok. I feel better. I got that off my chest.

Preparing Your Ruby Lane Shop for Cyber Monday

With a week left until the biggest online shopping day of the year, Cyber Monday (Monday, November 28th), shop owners on Ruby Lane are adding items and working hard in final preparation for the big day.

Cyber Monday is the online version of Black Friday. It is when shoppers return to work, the Monday following Thanksgiving, and traditionally begin their online shopping for the holidays.

With the holidays quickly approaching, I wanted to provide you with a final update to the recent site upgrades.

Ruby Lane continues to be stable and is back to full operational levels after the migration to Amazon's Cloud. Below are a few of the last updates:

  • We have added a new dedicated picture processing server for faster processing of your pictures when they are added or modified.

Ruby Lane and Ruby Plaza Site Update

The Ruby Lane Team has been working literally 24/7, and rightfully so, to resolve the issues created by the migration to Amazon Clouds.

As we continue to make progress on outstanding issues, be assured we will update you as soon as the information is available. With the majority of the larger issues resolved our Tech team has begun to address the smaller, localized issues.

We are happy to report that after a major re-upload to Amazon's Clouds, the site(s) speed has dramatically increased this evening and will continue to increase over the next several days.


A Note To All From Ruby Lane CEO Tom Johnson

Dear Shop Owner,

I want to begin by saying that our recent site upgrade has not gone as well as it should have. You plan and you plan, but even so, some things don't go the way you intend them to. For this I want to personally apologize.

Last Friday's upgrade had a number of issues that took several extra days to work out. Wednesday's move to Amazon's Clouds has been challenging for everyone - to say the least.
