Lest We Forget - Military Collectibles Help Keep Honorable Memories Alive

During the July 4th weekend my sister, Mary, and her family visited us. I commented that like his cousin, Billy, her son, Connor, had a very strong resemblance to our father. To show them, I pulled out my dad’s WWII scrapbook and the picture of him with his recruit company at US Naval Training Center, Great Lakes. Though Mary had never before seen the picture, she was able to quickly spot our then seventeen year old dad. Indeed the resemblance that he shared with his two grandsons was remarkable.

Confessions of an Imperfect Perfectionist

I am my own worst enemy.

No, really, I am. I know what I want to do here on Ruby Lane. I have fantastic ideas, I have a great plan, and... pfffbbbbthhhht. Another month goes by, I haven't listed the antiques which are piling up around my ears here at home, I haven't gotten those partially-listed items out of my backroom, and Heaven knows I haven't sold anything to speak of! I remember, when I started this venture, saying to my long-suffering husband, (let's call him Chuck, shall we?) "So, 'Chuck.' I know that I'm kind of a slow starter, sometimes. Just think of it this way: wouldn't it be worth a few hundred dollars a month to keep me occupied and entertained? I'll forgo the gym membership and lunches out with the girls, and I won't buy any new clothes until this shop starts paying for itself and for the shopping trips! Okay, honey?"

Daddy and Daughter Find Common Ground in Their Collections

Our shop is named for our daughter, Sienna. Now 15 months old, she was the first granddaughter for all three sets of grandparents. And while I would not say she is spoiled, I will say that this little girl and her three month old baby brother, Bennett, have everything they need and get just about everything they want. A recent trip to Papa Paul’s house had us returning home with a basket full of vintage Dr.

You just never know ...

In this business we all know that this time of year is absolutely prime for all sorts of sales. In past blogs I have advised that one should check the internet, the local paper and any other sources for upcoming sales, decide which may have items which interest you and then map a route and head out for the day.

My map in tow, my friend and I were heading to one of the destinations this past weekend when we passed a road which had a neon green sale sign professing a HUGE multi-family sale. There was a black arrow attached to the sign which was pointing North.

The Art of Being a Patient Seller

“Patience: A minor form of despair, disguised as a virtue” … quote by Ambrose Bierce

By nature I am not a patient person, born under the astrological sign Aries, my personality thrives on action! Having an online shop is rewarding as well as enjoyable and I’ve determined patience is a key component in success!

Movie Time: Frances Farmer

I recently had the pleasure of seeing a 1940s film *Flowing Gold*, starring a beautiful young actress who was unknown to me at the time, Frances Farmer. She was a beautiful young woman who appeared in 18 major films between 1936-1958. However, in researching her life there was a long period where she disappeared from film.
