Sondra Krueger specializes in a lot of things but first and foremost – she is a Mom, wife, and lover of all things FUN! A Ruby Lane shop owner since 2012, Sondra likes to exhibit at antique shows, doll shows, UFDC doll conventions, and previously had shops in Southern California. On Ruby Lane, she specializes in antique doll furniture. You can see Sondra and her husband Ken and two sweet pups Roxie and Sophia at the upcoming UFDC 67th Annual Convention – in fact she is on the road right now in her larger than life traveling coach. We had the opportunity to chat with Sondra for a Shop Owner Spotlight.
RL: We find most doll people didn’t venture out in the beginning to sell dolls – it just sort of ‘happened’. Do you remember the moment or way you started in dolls?
SK: I went to a show, bought an antique doll house & an antique tea set. I had already been collecting antiques for a long time however, this became a new love for me.
RL: What do you personally have in your collection? Do you focus on one doll segment or have a little of everything?
SK: I love antique dollhouses, antique doll furniture, anything antique Christmas. I also have a few dolls and dolls as accessories in my shop.
RL: What is it about working in dolls that inspires you the most?
SC: I’ve been in customer service most of my life & people are important to me. Being able to help them in their collecting efforts is great. It’s about having something that someone loves & appreciates, it becomes a story of where they got it, when, etc. And we’ve done a lot of repairs, given advice, appraisals, referrals to other dealers, all at no charge. It’s about making the hobby more fun.
RL: What is one of your favorite stories of selling a doll or accessory on Ruby Lane?
SK:Providing very quick shipping to someone who needed something like yesterday. Usually for a doll club gift exchange or program.
