The Opening of an Antique Mall - State Road Antique Mall - Wilkesboro, NC
inOctober 21, 2011 - 2:22pm
I have been brave enough to join my friend's adventure of opening an antique mall! She asked if I'd like a booth, knowing that I couldn't resist. Thinking wisely, about the antique shows cases gathering dust in my basement. Still, having many displays from my antique shop that was closed in 2008, great ideas formed in my head...
She took a building that was once a well known furniture store and converted it into an antique mall. This mall is just the right size so that a customer is not overwhelmed, as we all have been with the large commercial warehouse types. Opening day was to be August 1st. My requesting a large booth to find a home for those antique show cases made her more than pleased. My booth consists of oak furniture, vintage & antique and costume jewelry, prints, quilts, collectibles, pottery, Victorian furniture, books, toys....something for everyone....
In the past, it went against my grain to rent a booth, I wanted to be in charge of selling my items , like I was as a shop owner or vendor at a show. Since, working a full time job, things change....this offered me a chance to sell my treasures. I also work one day a week at this mall which gives a whole new aspect to having a booth at a mall It allows me to be able to meet and greet customers and answers questions they may have about my merchandise.
I believe my friend is quite brave to take on this new adventure given the state of the economy! She is very knowledgeable, a spectacular business person, and has never met a stranger. The mall is doing well with its warm atmosphere and variety of vendors. The days that I have worked, sales have included a wide range from jewelry, primitives, furniture, collectibles, advertising, pottery, prints, and more. Items that are not over priced does make a difference during these times and she offers a layaway program.
The holiday buying season is upon us and vendors are gearing up for it. The booths are packed full and we are preparing for our first open house.
Thanks, for stopping by.....
