Promoting your Ruby Lane Shop with Pinterest

For those of you who are not aware, Pinterest is the extremely popular, and highly addictive, online scrapbooking style social site. Users find their favorite images all over the world wide web and then "pin" them to boards which they have created around certain themes. Pinterest is now the third ranking social site on the internet.

Are you using Pinterest to promote your Ruby Lane Shop? If you are not, you are losing out on a free method of getting the word out about your products. There is a pin button in each of your listings. Give your customers a reason to pin your image over someone else's.

Here are a few tips to make sure that you get the most out of this social platform.

  • Images are the key. Be sure that all of your images are high quality photos with great resolution. No one will want to pin a low quality image. Take the time to spruce up your photos. It will make a difference.
  • Pin your own images. When you make a new listing, take the time to pin it to one of your own boards. It will show up on your followers feed and they may be inspired to repin it to their boards.
  • Cross Promote. Use other social sites like Facebook and Twitter to promote your "pins." This helps to get the message out for your product to people that may not use Pinterest yet.
  • Descriptions help. Pinterest allows 500 characters but shorter descriptions seem to work better. Just be sure to get some good keywords in your description area so that Google search will find your pins.
  • Use the price tag code. If you type in the dollar sign $ and price in the description, it will pop up on your pin at the top left corner to show it is for sale. Doing this might help to get your pin in the gifts category on the site.
  • Use a store link to the product. On Pinterest, the image will have an embedded link but this is a "no follow" link. Add your product page link at the end of the description. Google will follow this type of link and it will add to your page rank in Google search.

If you follow these few short rules, you will be a Pinterest superstar in no time flat! Happy Pinning.

Do you use Pinterest a lot? Do you see it as a fad, or something that will get more and more popular? Are you fond of giving jewelry for special holiday gifts?
