Sugaring off is a part of my youth, as it's a seasonal ritual in Québec. Spring is in the air and as the days grow a little longer, the sun is a little warmer, and the snow starts to melt. When the nights are still cold, the conditions are perfect for the maple sap to rise. The maple syrup producers head into the sugar bush and begin tapping their trees. The buckets fill with a sweetish, watery liquid that will be boiled down to make the delicately flavored syrup everyone loves on pancakes.

Listed artist Paul A. De Bagossy has captured the essence of this special time and one can imagine the flowing sap that is collected drop by drop by little spouts inserted directly into the tree trunk. Buckets are hung from the spouts; as they are filled, they will be emptied into huge barrels that are then carted through the forest on horse-drawn sleds. The sugar shack stands in the background waiting to store the precious syrup that will cover your breakfast pancakes. If you have ever experienced this wonderful 'time' that is filled with a certain joie-de-vivre, you will relive the excitement every time you look at this fantastic and realistic painting.

Born in Hungary in 1920, Paul decided to devote himself to painting from the age of 10. He studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest. Since his entry into Canada in 1966 he exhibited successfully in most major cities and his paintings are in many collections all over the world. His much sought after works can be admired in many famous galleries across Canada and the United States.

The painting measures 10" by 11 3/4" unframed and 17" by 19" framed. It is being sold with this magnificent gold frame and linen matte.
