The most important person in the world to us has just entered our shop - "YOU - OUR CUSTOMER"
Jack has produced full color posters of his original works and we will be including the applicable poster with this pen and ink drawing.
The original pen and ink drawing measures 16 1/2" x 11 3/4" and is signed "Jack Dylan - 06" in the lower right hand corner. The full color poster measures 17 1/2" x 11 1/2" and bears a facsimile signature of the artist.
Born November 14th, 1983, in Stratford Ontario. Jack studied painting and sculpture at the Beal School of Art in London Ontario from which he graduated. Jack, moved to Montreal in the Fall of 2003. He co-founded a large studio and venue space known as “The Electric Tractor”. He continued to paint and exhibit in cafes and shops, but during this time, became increasingly active as a poster artist and illustrator, creating works to advertise the shows and events in the music community.
He co-founded “Friendship Cove” with fellow Stratford-ite and musician Graham Van Pelt, 2007 Polaris nominee Miracle Fortress (Van Pelt) recorded the album “Five Roses” at Friendship Cove.
Jack continues to live in Montreal, works with the music community, show-casing his posters through music venues and festivals like “Pop Montreal”, “Sled Island”, and “Le Guess Who” (Utrech, The Netherlands). Working actively as a commercial Illustrator, Jack recently created works for publications such as “Eye Weekly” (Toronto), “The Mirror,” (Montreal), “Anthem Magazine,” (USA), and “Masionnuve” (Montreal).
MIRACLE FORTRESS is the brainchild of Graham Van Pelt, a Montreal-based multi-instrumentalist and vocalist who seems equally at home fiddling in the studio with strange pop-accidents, crafting diabolically catchy hooks, thrashing punk noise out on stage, and sometimes (if you’re lucky), even rapping.
Originally from Stratford, Ontario, Graham moved to Montreal in 2004 while still recording as a solo artist under the name Hidden in Buildings. Upon founding alternative venue space, the Electric Tractor, with friend and artist Jack Dylan, Van Pelt began to collaborate with Matt Shane and Martin Cesar as Think About Life, who quickly won local hearts, toured with Wolf Parade and Art Brut in 2005, and released their self-titled debut on Alien8 in 2006.
When it became apparent the Electric Tractor could no longer function in its Mile End location, Van Pelt and Jack Dylan opened a similarly-minded space in Montreal’s Griffintown called Friendship Cove. In addition to being one of Montreal’s most charming alternative venues, Friendship Cove also began to function as a jam space, studio, gallery, home, and more or less permanent art-installation. It was in this new setting that Van Pelt began to pursue solo recordings again, this time under the moniker Miracle Fortress.
A self-released 5 song EP, Watery Grave, led to a collaboration with Secret City Records in 2006 to record a full length LP, Five Roses. Graham spent a larger part of the year building into the Friendship Cove studio and recording the Miracle Fortress debut, taking time out to perform as a solo act opening for bands like Love is All, Vic Chestnut, and locals Sunset Rubdown, and Islands. Five Roses was released by Secret City in North America in May 2007, and according to Van Pelt is “inspired heavily by (and occasionally pays homage to) weirder Nilsson, Phil Spector and Beach Boys stuff, but draws mainly from straight-up studio accidents/surprises, FX mush, ambient drones, drum programming, post-rock, classic rock etc.” Following the release of the album, Graham decided to fill out the live material with a proper band, which now features Nathan Ward, Adam Waito and Jessie Stein (also of The Luyas). Five Roses was released in the rest of the world in September 2007 via Rough Trade, furthering wide critical appeal and a fair bit of heartfelt adoration.
Crystal Castles is a Toronto-based band, consisting of multi-instrumentalist Ethan Kath and vocalist Alice Glass.Crystal Castles are known not only for their own efforts as a band, but also for commissioned remixes for a number of groups, including "Hunting for Witches" by Bloc Party, and "Atlantis to Interzone" by friends, Klaxons.
Crystal Castles, named after the Crystal Castle from the She-Ra franchise despite never actually watching the show, formed in December 2003 as a project started by Ethan Kath. In April 2005, Alice Glass recorded vocals for five original instrumentals by Kath. The band's first single was recorded "accidentally": a microphone test by Glass was released through MySpace as "Alice Practice" in September 2005. Glass was not aware that it had been used until record companies heard the song and contacted the duo to offer them record deals.
Since the release of "Alice Practice", the duo announced plans to release their first full-length album on Last Gang Records, which was released in North America on 18 March 2008 and released in the UK on 28 April 2008.
Crystal Castles have toured Europe and the USA numerous times since 2006, including a US tour with Australian, electronic group, The Presets in February 2007.The band also played at the Reading and Leeds Festivals in England, August 2007 and were set to play the CMJ Festival October 2007. They supported Metric on certain dates throughout their North American tour in September and October 2007 and also headlined Vice Magazine's UK tour in November 2007 called Unitaur, which also featured These New Puritans and The Teenagers.
In May 2008, Crystal Castles headlined the UK's NME New Noise tour along with Friendly Fires, Team Waterpolo and White Lies
Crystal Castles performed at the Glastonbury Festival in June 2008, where the on-stage antics of Glass which included her climbing the stage rigging and constantly stage-diving, led to the organizers curtailing their set. Crystal Castles are set to tour with Nine Inch Nails in dates across July and August 2008.Crystal Castles are also set to play various European summer festivals including England's Reading & Leeds festivals. Then they return to the UK in September 2008 for a headlining tour.
