Edward was the eldest son of Queen Victoria and ascended the throne on January 22, 1901 upon Victoria's death. Born in 1841 he had to wait a long time to succeed to the throne. He married Princess Alexandra of Denmark in 1863 who bore him three sons and three daughters. The Edwardian period, which covered Edward's reign and was named after him, coincided with the start of a new century and heralded significant changes in technology and society,
All pressed glass of this type generally has some manufacturing flaws, which are common, but I only notice two minor chips on the base rim which are very smooth and probably came that way out of the press. There are some faint surface scratches. The raised lettering and the Union Jack and the lion, as well as the etched side views of Edward VII and Alexandra and the words 'Crowned 26 June 1902' were all done on the underside of the 10" pressed glass plate.
